R. K. Prakash

Vainika Vidwan World Master Rudrapattana Keshavamurthy Prakash is the son and disciple of Vainika Praveena Vidwan R. S. Keshavamurthy, who was the disciple of Bakshi Veena Subbanna and Asthana Vidwan in the court of Mysore. This tradition of excellence is well imbibed in Vidwan R K Prakash, ensuring a strong penchant for uncompromising quality while playing on the Veena.

When Vidwan R K Prakash plays the veena, the music that comes of his instrument on the lines of vocalization leaves the audience spellbound. His individuality and creativity that are based on strong tradition are very prominent in his leisurely and methodical approach to raga aalapana. In his playing, he merges into the bhava of the composition and brings valuable pearls from the depths of the ocean of music. He exhibits superb command over the instrument and through different slides, gamakas, varying strokes and his unique fingering, he brings forth rich & resonant music from the Veena.

His expertise and abundant knowledge was recognized in the form of the World Master award by the World Masters Festival in Arts & Culture in Seoul in the year 2007. Shri R K Prakash is also the Asthana Vidwan at Sringeri Shree Sharada Peetham, Karnataka.

In his long teaching career of nearly 40 years, Vidwan Prakash has initiated innumerable students into the divine world of music ensuring that the great tradition passed on to him by his father shall remain for many many years to come.
